ASTM D6124

ASTM D6124 - Test methods for measuring powder content

This test method determines the average powder or filter-retained mass found on a sample of medical gloves as described in the test. The test amount of powder per pre-powdered glove is 120mg and powder-free medical gloves & polymer-coated medical gloves may only contain a maximum of 2.0mg powder per glove.

ASTM D 6124 ensures manufacturers are removing residual powder. Since powder-free exam gloves have become the standard, the FDA created requirements on the acceptable level of powder that can exist on each glove. For medical exam gloves to be labeled as powder-free on their glove box, the manufacturer must adhere to ASTM D 6124.
